Welcome to Dance Education in Practice (DEiP). This journal provides a rich resource for dance educators. Each issue includes articles from teachers about what they do in the studio and classroom, which we hope will inspire you in your own practice. We cover the vast breadth of the field from private schools of dance, to K-12 classrooms, to college and universities, to community centers, to professional companies and more. Columns on resources for dance teaching, coverage of current trends in the field, and viewpoints from dance educators and students enhance the feature articles. A stimulating read from cover to cover, Dance Education in Practice embodies the voice of the practitioner.

Note:  The Journal of Dance Education and Dance Education in Practice will be going fully online starting in June 2020 with JODE Vol. 20(2) and DEiP Vol. 6(2). This change will impact all future issues and volumes. We look forward to providing you with the same great content in a convenient online format, while reducing our environmental impact and ensuring the financial health of the organization. NDEO will no longer mail print copies of its two journals.

Aims and Scope

Dance Education in Practice considers articles for publication focused on practical approaches to dance education and teaching that provide educators with models of new ideas, strategies, and content they can apply to their own practice. Targeted toward dance studio teachers, P-12 dance educators, postsecondary teacher education professionals, teaching artists, and dance education undergraduate and graduate students, the journal welcomes contributions that may include cross-curricular projects, standards-based models of teaching and learning, innovations in teaching technique, technological applications to dance teaching, assessment strategies, world cultures curricula, addressing needs of diverse learners through dance, professional issues, and advocacy. Articles will be concise (1000-3000 words) and communicate innovative ideas in a “how to” format. Graphics and pictures will support article content.
