In the United States, dance is offered at colleges and universities in all 50 states. Dance is offered as a major, minor, concentration, or through elective classes at 4-year colleges and community colleges across the country. Dance degrees conferred include BA, BFA, BS, MA, MFA, EdD, and PhD. Courses of study include dance performance, choreography, dance education, and dance science. In many states, students may work toward PreK-12 teacher certification in dance during their study.
Students who major or minor in dance go on to careers as performers, choreographers, educators, arts administrators, researchers, dance therapists, dance medicine specialists, and writers. They also enter other career fields, using the knowledge and skills gained through their dance studies to serve and lead in all fields of study.
