This seven-module self-paced course, created by Danscend co-founders Michelle Loucadoux and Kristin Deiss, explores one of the most personal and powerful parts of a dancer’s life: the relationship with your own body. Body image doesn’t exist in isolation. It is shaped by the way we talk to ourselves, the content we consume, and how we care for ourselves through challenges. That’s why this course goes beyond body image alone to cover five connected topics: body image, self-talk, social media, resilience, and self-care. Together, they offer a fuller picture of how dancers think and feel about themselves. Each section combines several types of learning. Instructional videos introduce the key concepts and the science behind them. Worksheets then help you put that knowledge into practice. Some offer additional information, some invite personal reflection, and others present stories of dancers facing these same struggles so you can see the ideas applied in real-life situations. The goal of this course is not just to understand the science behind body image, but to give you the tools you can use to develop and maintain a healthier relationship with your body. Through these foundations of introspection and knowledge, we hope you can grow as a dancer and become a happier person.
