NDEO is a membership driven organization. Its members had a strong voice in the formation of its structure. They vote for its Board of Directors, write for its publications and contribute published resources. They participate on national task forces and organizational teams, and they determine the direction and thrust of initiatives through active communication with the NDEO office.

NDEO encourages the involvement of dances educators of diverse levels, backgrounds, origins, styles of dance, and areas of involvement. There are a variety of membership options to accommodate a diverse constituency:  Individual Member, Student Member, Affiliate Member, Institutional Member, Business and Corporate Member, and Charter Membership. A description of each is listed below.

Individual Member - includes persons in career paths of dance education in PreK-12 (magnet, performing arts schools, and programs with in-school course curricula), higher education (colleges and universities), and dance studios/schools. Individual members include dance educators; dancers and choreographers; dance specialists in medicine/science and technology; arts, education, and administrators; and members interested in dance.

Student Member - includes matriculated undergraduate and graduate students. Proof of student status is requested at time of enrollment and upon each subsequent renewal of student membership.

Retiree Member - includes persons retired from a career in professional dance education.

Student Advantage Program - Students attending schools who hold Institutional Membership with NDEO are eligible for bulk membership (12 or more students) and additional discounts. More detailed information is available on our Student Advantage Program page.

Institutional Member - includes institutions that support dance departments or programs PreK-12 (magnet, performing arts, and in-school course curricula), higher education (colleges and universities), and schools of dance.

Affiliate Member - includes organizations or agencies that support the delivery of dance education programs, arts enhancement, entertainment, or enrichment programs; and educators in fields associated with dance (i.e., medicine, science, technology, administration, and creative/production arts) who are not dance educators. Affiliate memberships include groups such as state arts agencies, state dance associations, federal/state agencies, arts/education associations.

Businesses and Corporate Member - includes members of the business community that support the philosophy of NDEO.
