The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) and Oakland University (OU) in Michigan are proud to announce a new, forward-thinking partnership that expands access to high-quality dance education training and certification opportunities for educators across the nation. And you can get started with this Fall 2025 Semester!

3 Ways to Impact YOUR Professional Development & Further Your Career

 1. Earn College Credit for Individual OPDI Online Courses - For those who need it for salary or advancement opportunities or to fulfill existing undergraduate or graduate degree requirements from another college or university.

 2. Earn an Oakland University K-12 Certificate in Dance Education - For those seeking certification who already have either a bachelor's degree in dance or those who already have a bachelor's degree in any endorsed content in K-12 Education.

 3. Earn an NDEO Certificate in Dance Education - For those who want a deep dive into dance education and do not need to pay extra for college credits. Awarded after 33 credits of OPDI coursework have been successfully completed. Previous dance teaching experience is a must, but no previous college degree is required.

If you have previously filled out the Oakland University Form to request an advising appointment and have not yet scheduled that appointment, please plan to attend this meeting to help you jump-start the process. There is a high demand for information and the deadline to get started on the path to earning college credits for OPDI courses is August 1 for the Fall semester courses.

Melissa's dance journey began at age six in Houston, Texas. She honed her skills taking classes at various local studios, performing in several companies, and participating all four years in her high school's dance program as a student, leader, choreographer, and performer. These experiences fueled her passion for dance and the belief that everyone deserves an opportunity to dance. Melissa earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin and began her corporate career at Procter & Gamble which spanned thirteen successful years, focusing on sales, business development, marketing, and brand management. Amid her corporate accomplishments, Melissa maintained her love of dance taking adults classes when possible. After P&G, she continued to build her marketing and business development skills with several other companies. In 2006, she had the opportunity to study dance full time at the collegiate level at the University of Maryland College Park. It was here that she was introduced to the National Dance Education Organization and realized she could merge her business acumen with her passion for dance. She joined NDEO part-time in 2007 as the first ever NDEO Director of Marketing and Membership. Over the years, as the organization grew, her role expanded to include honor society programs, board initiatives, and online course development. Becoming Managing Director (full-time) in 2017, she now oversees NDEO internal operations of all programs and services. She/Her/Hers.
