“Somatic-Based, Student-Centered Dance Technique, Creative Processes and Pedagogy”
(integrating principles and practices of the Laban/Bartenieff Movement System)

For Established and Emerging Dance Educators (and younger dancers interested in a somatic-based, student-centered intensive workshop)

Arrive and Check-In, 4-5, Bartenieff Fundamentals, 7-8:30 pm—Improvisation
Monday 8/5-Saturday 8/10--
9-10:30, Fundamentals or Pedagogy
10:45-12:15, Evans Somatic Technique or Ballet Technique or Core Awareness and Conditioning
CATERED LUNCH AVAILABLE
1:30-3:30, Evans Repertory (culminating in informal performance on August 10)

3:45-5:15, Laban Movement Analysis or Creative Movement
DINNER BREAK
7-8:30 pm, Hatha Yoga

Performance by the Evans Rhythm Tap Ensemble and Jazz Musicians

There will be a simultaneous workshop for educators wishing to certify in Evans Technique and Pedagogy.
There will also be a full schedule of community classes.

2019 BETI NW Faculty:

  • Kitty Daniels, MA, CET, chair of dance at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle for 29 years; performed with several professional ballet and modern dance companies, including Bill Evans Dance; has taught in Evans Summer Institutes of Dance since 1977
  • Bill Evans, MFA, Honorary DFA, CLMA, CMA, RSME,founding director of the Bill Evans Dance Company and the Evans Summer Institute of Dance; emeritus professor at the University of New Mexico and SUNY Brockport; internationally-renowned choreographer and performer
  • Don Halquist, PhD, CET,jointed the Bill Evans Dance Company in 1985; has taught in Evans Summer Institute of Dance since 1988, former professor, chair or dean of education at two colleges
  • Debra Knapp, EdD, CET,long-time member of the Bill Evans Dance Company and former director of dance at New Mexico State University; has taught in Evans Teachers Intensives for many years
  • Suzie Lundgren, CET,MA, CFT, CLMA,has been a professional associate of Bill Evans since 1980. She has taught in numerous Evans summer programs and performed as a guest with the Evans Company.
  • Melissa Hauschild-Mork, EdD, CET,earned her master’s degree under Evans’ guidance at Indiana University; heads dance program at South Dakota State University and directs her own school of dance, Expanding Harmony
  • Georgia Ortega, CYT, CMT, CET,director of dance at the Branson School, Ross, California
