The National Conference is NDEO’s largest program, bringing together hundreds of dance education professionals from across the country and around the world for three days of networking, professional development, and celebrating dance education. This year’s Conference, to be held in gorgeous La Jolla Beach, California, marks the 20th annual convening of the NDEO membership. The theme of the conference, Connections, Knowledge, Leadership: A New Era in Dance Education, looks to the future of NDEO and the field of dance education. The idyllic location, thought-provoking theme, and joyous celebration of NDEO’s past, present, and future guarantee that this will be a memorable event!

Pre-Conference Intensives: There is still time to register for some pre-conference intensives! These special sessions are held on Thursday, October 4, 2018 and include an in-depth look at popular topics in the field of dance education. Grand Opening: NDEO Awards and Keynote Address - Friday, October 5, 2018 at 6:30pm
Featuring a keynote address by Robert Moses, Choreographer, Founder, and Artistic Director of San Francisco based contemporary dance company, Robert Moses’ Kin. Awards presented to NDEO Recipients Lynette Overby Young (Lifetime Achievement Award), Mila Parrish (Outstanding Dance Educator - Higher Education), and Dale Schmid (Outstanding Dance Education Leadership). Local California Student Sharing Performance: Students from throughout the state present original work at this free, on-site concert, Thursday October 4 from 6:30-8:00.
Early Bird Warm-ups and Evening Cool Downs: Starting at 7:00am Friday through Sunday, take advantage of special warm-up sessions designed to prepare your body, mind, and spirit for a day of learning and connections! Evening cool down sessions are Friday and Sunday at 5 pm. Options throughout the weekend include tap, aqua aerobics, jazz, yoga, and Alexander Technique.
Exhibitors: Representatives from dance supply companies, publishers, colleges, professional organizations, and more will be on hand on Friday October 5 and Saturday October 6.
Pop-Up Performances: Enjoy dances from California-based artists on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12:00-1:00pm on the Asteria Terrace at the hotel. The perfect way to refresh while you enjoy your lunch!
NDEO Membership Meeting and Plenary Panel: The annual convening of the NDEO membership will be held from 4:00pm-5:00pm on Saturday October 5, and will feature updates from the NDEO Executive Director and Board of Directors. The Plenary Session and Town Hall, “When the Dance World is a Hostile Workplace” will follow from 5:00-6:30pm and will cover topics such as abuse, harassment, and bullying in the dance world.
Form & Experiment: A professional concert featuring California-based performing dance educators, curated by the California Dance Education Organization. This off-site performance will be held at the UCSD Theatre on Saturday October 5 at either 6:00 or 8:30pm, and tickets are required. Tickets available here.
Trolley Dances: San Diego Dance Theatre is offering discounted tickets to their performance of Trolley Dances, a performance experience in which audience members are invited to hop off and on the green and blue trolley to view 6 dances in unexpected places performed by 50 of San Diego's most talented professional dancers. The unique nature of "Trolley Dances" is that the dances are created on-site, influenced by the architectural components of the location, the sounds and smells of the area, and the this history or intended use of the space.
