You may not be thinking much about joining a dance service organization right now, and to be honest, we can’t blame you! It goes without saying that this has been a tough year for dance teachers. If you are spending your summer recuperating from a year of online teaching and social distancing, then networking, professional development, and career advancement may be the furthest thing from your mind. On the other hand, you are anxiously job hunting as the dance world recovers from the pandemic, you may not feel you have the time, funds, or mental bandwidth to consider joining a professional organization and taking advantage of all it has to offer. Either way, we want to let you in on a secret: July is the best time to join NDEO!

During our July Membership Drive, we offer a 10% discount for all new members who join our organization. When you join now, you can take advantage of that substantial savings, while also getting access to the resources, tools, and opportunities you need to make the coming school year the best yet - for you and your students.

Here are just a few of the top reasons why you should join NDEO during our July 2021 Membership Drive, according to our members:

NDEO offers a community of support. Our online forums and virtual meetings connect you to other passionate, engaged dance educators from around the world. The job boards and event calendar help you find and share opportunities to learn, grow, share, and work with like-minded artists and educators.

NDEO gives me the opportunity to be in conversation with experts in the field. Without NDEO, I would be working in a vacuum, a void. Thank goodness for its commitment to educators like me.” - Leah Cox, Associate Professor, The University of Texas at Austin, Texas

NDEO has been the leader in online learning in dance since 2012. Long before the Covid-19 pandemic, NDEO was at the forefront of online professional development for dance teachers. Through our Online Professional Development Institute, we offer innovative courses, led by experts in the field and covering a range of topics, from injury prevention to choreography to assessment. For the last eighteen months, we’ve been leading the field through webinars on pertinent topics related to current events in the dance industry.

“As a new member to NDEO, I feel that the most valuable aspect for my students at this point is the availability of professional development that will allow me to learn from other dance educators around the world. It is important to me to continue to grow in my profession through learning and networking with other members of NDEO. During the pandemic last spring, I found the professional development sessions on Zoom to be very beneficial, and this encouraged me to join NDEO to further my experiences with this amazing group of individuals.” - Kellianne Floyd, Lead Dance Teacher, Spartanburg School District 1, South Carolina

NDEO is advancing the field through research that makes an impact. Members receive online access to our two quarterly journals, Dance Education in Practice and Journal of Dance Education, which feature cutting-edge research and practical applications you can implement in your own studios and classrooms. The Dance Education Literature and Research descriptive index (DELRdi) allows you to search several thousand literary works from over 200 different publications, representing nearly 100 years of dance education research.

“NDEO Membership helps every member to engage, learn, replenish their knowledge or contribute their experiences with the rest of the dance community. As a passionate dancer, and as a student for life who is interested in learning more about dance, I enjoy being able to liaise, communicate, and participate in dance- related topics. NDEO has a wonderful online learning platform as well as interesting articles on dance research. I have learned a lot from these methods. It is important to keep oneself abreast of the developments in one’s profession, and NDEO definitely helps me to stay informed.” - Gomathi Manoj, Artistic Director, Soundarya Natya Kalalaya, New Jersey

NDEO has been there for dance educators during the most difficult times. We know how hard you’ve been working to provide access to dance for your students throughout the last eighteen months. We see the sacrifice, the ingenuity, and the passion that you’ve poured into your classes - and the difference it has made for your students. In turn, we’ve tried to make a difference for you, by providing the information and ideas you needed to keep your students moving online and through social distancing. We’ve worked to increase the accessibility and relevance of our programs, from hosting our first Virtual National Conference with a “pay what you can” fee structure to offering a record number of Professional Development Scholarships.

“I joined NDEO thinking it was just a good thing to do. I wanted to network and also offer my support to the organization. I have gotten back so much more than I had anticipated, particularly during this incredibly difficult time when we have all had to pivot so quickly in our instruction and creation methods. The support from all of the new colleagues and the access to resources has been a true life saver!” - Angela Miller, Associate Professor of Theatre and Dance, Coordinator of Performance Programs, Millikin University, Illinois
