NDEO’s Guest Blog Series continues with “Self-Care for Dancers Ushers Forth Enhanced Performance,” a post from Lisa D. Long of California State University, Fullerton.

Back to school season also means a return to demanding schedules for many dance education professionals. If you are feeling the physical and mental effects of your return to the studio or classroom, check out Lisa Long’s guest blog post on self-care for dancers. As Lisa reminds us, “just as one must change a car’s oil, lubricate bicycle chains and snake clogs out of a drain, bodies, as instruments, need the same kind of maintenance. Remembering to take the time to pause, and unblock the knots and energy that are congealing within muscles and joints ensures that they operate at full capacity.” Her post includes suggestions for myofascial release work that can be integrated into your own self-care routine or introduced to your students.
