Seeking Teaching Artists to serve on this panel.
Call Description: During this ongoing period of societal tumult and widespread harm, how does one approach the teaching of ballet and both its centuries-long history of exclusion and its capacity for being a place of refuge and an artistic home for diverse bodies and minds? Building on the work many educators have already done to make ballet more inclusive, this moderated panel discussion explores what educators are doing in their studio spaces to address ballet’s inescapable politics (of being and environment), foster more inclusive and accessible ballet learning environments, and use ballet as a teaching/learning/healing experience that is relevant for our current times of crisis.
This panel is an opportunity for teaching artists to share specific tools, practices, exercises, or other methods of engagement that may relate to stress reduction, conflict resolution, grading and assessment, class and rehearsal attendance, and curricular standards and learning outcomes in the ballet studio. This panel opportunity is NOT a platform for advertising training/certification programs or soliciting paid engagements. We welcome submissions of interest from teaching artists substantially engaged and actively teaching in ballet pedagogy, practice, and history in K-12, conservatory/performing arts schools, private sector, community dance, and/or higher education (including two-year community college) environments.
