Taking the tax advantage - Your primary advantage in giving to the Friends of NDEO is income tax savings. Tax benefits from charitable contributions vary depending upon the sate in which you live.

Avoiding capital gains in stocks - If you own a stock that has lost value this year, sell the stock, donate the cash to NDEO and deduct your loss on the stock and the charitable cash gift. If you own a stock that has increased in value this year, make a gift of the stock to NDEO and you may avoid being taxed on the gain you have realized.
