DANCE 2050: The Future of Dance in Higher Education is a visionary and generative symposium seeking a broad ranging consideration of what pathways dance in higher education might take into the mid-21st century. Inspired by the 1966-1967 Developmental Conferences on DAnce held at UCLA, the symposium includes plenary sessions and break-out group discussions organized around many of the topics brought forward in submitted vision statements, including: future projections for our institutions, the evolution of dance program designs, dance in local, regional, and world communities, dance and the opportunities and challenges of emergent technologies, and other overarching considerations that symposium participants believe will shape, form, and interact with the discipline of dance over the next three decades.
To help tie us to our history, Dance 2050 will also include the release of Revisiting Impulse: A contemporary look at writings on dance 1950-1970. Over two decades,
Impulse: annual of contemporary dance brought forward many of the discussions, viewpoints, and planning reports that set the stage for dance in art and education well into the 1980s and 1990s. This new volume, featuring contemporary consideration of each Impulse issue by selected contributors, will bring field history into clear focus. Cambria Press will publish this volume and make it available at a discount to participants. To access back issues of Impulse, click here.
