2006 New Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce

Newly Released Report on U.S. Education ----

On December 14, 2006 the New Commission on the Skills of the American Workforce unveiled recommendations calling for the biggest changes in the American education system in a century. Without these changes, the Commission believes that the U.S. standard of living will be in jeopardy, as the nation already faces numerous threats from a growing collection of countries that can offer highly educated workers at low wages.  Fifteen years after its initial landmark SCANS (Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills) report, the New Commission presents a version of what U.S. education needs to look like by the year of 2021.  You can purchase the report at www.amazon.com) for $13.95.

2001 To Move Forward

The Consortium of National Arts Education Associations (CNAEA) developed and published a white paper on accomplishments achieved in arts education to date, and what next actions were needed to move the country forward in high school graduation requirements, university admission requirements, teacher credentialing (arts specialists, generalists), professional preparation and development, standards, and research.

1992 Secretary's Commission on Achieving Necessary Skills (SCANS) report

The SCANS report identifies work-force skills needed for the 21st century workers. Much of the business community supports the SCANS findings and some big corporations, now a decade later, are supporting arts education as a means of delivering the skill sets needed for the creative economy of the 21st century.  To view the full report, click here.
